STATMENT ON MARRIAGE, GENDER,

AND SEXUALITY

We recognize that all have sinned and as a result people’s brokenness is demonstrated in ways contrary to God’s ways, including greed, selfishness, covetousness, and immorality. Because of the public discussion and legal attention being given to gender, marriage, and sexuality, we find it necessary to present the following statements and ministry policies that specifically address these issues.

We believe that God created marriage to be exclusively the union of one man and one woman, and that intimate sexual activity is to occur exclusively within that union. We believe that any form of sexual intimacy outside of the marriage covenant is a violation of God's intended will and purpose for mankind. (1 Cor. 6:15-7:6; Eph. 5:3-7, Rom. Ch. 1). Sexual immorality includes, but is not limited to adultery, fornication, homosexual conduct, and pornography.

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably created each person as distinctly (biologically/chromosomally) male or female (Gen. 1:26-31; 2:18-25; 5:1, 2). These two distinct and complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God.

We believe that all people must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. It will always be our intent as a ministry to reflect these qualities and any behavior or attitudes not displaying these qualities should be repudiated, as they are not in accord with scripture or the Spirit of Christ.

We believe that God offers forgiveness, redemption, transformation, and restoration to all who confess and repent from their sin and humbly ask for His forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (1 Cor. 6:11)

We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of The Evangelical Episcopal Communion and to provide a biblical role model to the Body of Christ and the community at large, it is imperative that all persons ordained by The Evangelical Episcopal Communion agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender and Sexuality.

SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE STATEMENT

We are pro-life.

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect and value all human life. (Psalm 13)
